Juan Martin Del Potro scraps past Simon to set up Nadal clash

Tennis- Wimbledon- All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club London Britain

With world number one Rafael Nadal waiting for the victor, Tuesday's fourth set, played in much cooler conditions than the first three the day before, turned into a mini-epic before Del Potro eventually prevailed 7-6 (1), 7-6 (5), 5-7, 7-6 (5).

Defending champion Federer was two sets up and had a match point in the third against Anderson, but nearly three hours later he trudged off on the end of a seismic 2-6 6-7 (5/7) 7-5 6-4 13-11 upset. The three-time Wimbledon champion has looked in impressive form over the last week and was too strong for Nishikori, who was competing in his first quarter-final at the All England Club.

Defending champion Roger Federer was sensationally knocked out by South African Kevin Anderson on Wednesday.

Del Potro bounced back from a set down against his opponent to claim a closely-contested tie-break in the second.

The world number one had lost only nine points on serve when, just before the ninth game of the second set, the result of Federer's shock demise was flashed up on the giant on-court scoreboard.

Nadal is bidding to win his third Wimbledon title and his second Grand Slam of the year, having secured the French Open in June. Sorry to Juan Martin, he's an unbelievable opponent and fantastic player. Nadal took him to deuce but couldn't nail the break and they went to the shootout, where, against all likelihood, Nadal double-faulted on set point.

It has already been hailed as another Wimbledon classic and it always seems a shame that one of these two phenomenal talents must leave the world's greatest tennis showcase. With how I'm feeling physically and mentally, I'm in a very good spot.

Israel fires missile at drone that entered from Syria
A series of strikes in Syria that have killed Iranians have been attributed to Israel in recent months. Israel has been on high alert recently as Syrian rebels have advanced on the Golan area.

The 2009 US Open champion has steadfastly refused to submit, returning after surgery to reach grand slam semi-finals and winning an Olympic Games silver medal.

"I think I did a lot of things well".

'When I go to sleep I have to take a correct position and rest as more as possible.

Del Potro ended the match flat on the grass as Nadal held his arms aloft, before clambering over the net for a consoling, and exhausted, hug. I think that's not fair.

'It will be a different match that we played in Paris few weeks ago.

"The fans on Court One will love seeing Roger and while some ticket holders on Centre might be upset, they have two brilliant matches to look forward to".

But the Spaniard broke midway through the final set and held his nerve from there to set up his sixth Wimbledon semi-final - and a third meeting with Djokovic at SW19.
