Trump Touts Monday Night Prime-Time Supreme Court Reveal

Democrats' long-shot plan to stop Trump's Supreme Court pick

One of the judges on Trump's shortlist, Amy Coney Barrett, serves on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit in Donnelly's home state of in - a factor that could make the lawmaker more likely to vote in favor should Barrett be the nominee.

In his remarks, Kavanaugh expressed his view of a judge's role.

The Judicial Crisis Network is planning a $1.4 million ad buy in Alabama, Indiana, North Dakota and West Virginia - states with moderate Democratic senators who could be pressured to vote for Trump's nominee.

On abortion, Kavanaugh voted in October to delay an abortion for a teenage immigrant who was in government custody.

Last year, when Gorsuch was tapped to serve on the Supreme Court, the MRC conducted a study that proved Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and Merrick Garland were rarely referred to as "liberal" when the media covered their nominations. But his supporters cite his experience and wide range of legal opinions.

President Donald Trump said Sunday afternoon he still had not made his final decision on a Supreme Court nominee, but anticipated finishing by Monday.

The president has reportedly narrowed his choices down to three main candidates: current appellate judges Brett Kavanaugh of the DC Circuit; Amy Coney Barrett of the Seventh Circuit; and Raymond Kethledge of the Sixth Circuit.

"If that nominee is from the pre-approved list selected by Leo and the Heritage Foundation, every one ought to understand what it means for the freedom of women to make their own healthcare decisions, and for the protection for Americans with preexisting conditions. I was a little bit comforted knowing I was not overreacting in my deep malaise", said Stacy Hawkins, a professor at Rutgers Law School in Camden. None is older than 53, meaning they could sit on the court for decades, allowing Trump to make a lasting imprint on the nation's laws.

Donald Trump says Kim Jong Un 'sees different future' for North Korea
Five US officials told NBC News that North Korea has increased its production of enriched uranium for nuclear weapons. Also high on the agenda is the issue of the remains of US soldiers missing from the 1950-53 Korean War.

But that element of his record is among the reasons that some Republicans in Congress are concerned about a confirmation hearing in the Senate.

It's too early to tell whether doomsday scenarios prophesied by some Democrats and liberals of across-the-board rollback of reproductive rights, LGBT rights, affirmative action and other legal issues will come true.

Democratic Sens. Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, Doug Jones of Alabama, Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Joe Donnelly of IN were invited for the announcement.

The senators have stayed mum on whether they're planning to support Trump's nominee, saying they'll wait until after he announces to weigh in. Kennedy, a member of the Judiciary Committee, which will get the first chance to question the nominee, predicted a "rough, tough, down in the dirt, ear-pulling, nose-biting fight".

Meanwhile, Republicans sought to use Democrats' attacks against them, insisting that Kavanaugh is a "mainstream" pick (though it appears he would be one of the Court's most conservative justices), and Democratic resistance is unfair. Jon Kyl would guide Trump's nominee through the grueling Senate process.

Kyl retired from the Senate seat now occupied by Jeff Flake in 2013 and has been working for Washington-based lobbying firm Covington & Burling. "When Justice Kennedy announced his retirement, I urged the President to appoint a consensus nominee who could earn broad bipartisan support in the Senate and the confidence of the American people".

Democrats have turned their attention to pressuring two Republicans, Sens.

Facing distrust, Trump promised to pick a Supreme Court justice from a pre-released list of highly qualified, clearly conservative candidates.
