Crews battle growing wildfire near homes in California

'This place will burn,' says text allegedly sent by man arrested in connection with California fire

The blaze north of San Francisco has grown to the size of Los Angeles since it started two weeks ago, fueled by dry vegetation, high winds and rugged terrain that made it too risky for firefighters to directly attack the flames now spanning 470 square miles.

Mandatory evacuations were lifted Saturday for the communities of Horsethief, McVicker Canyon and Rice Canyon.

Mr Clark is alleged to have sent text messages stating that he planned to commit arson in Holy Jim Canyon, where the fire broke out on Monday.

The arraignment for Forrest Clark was supposed to be today, but the judge in the case said the suspect refused to go to court.

According to CAL FIRE, 1,077 residences and 22 commercial structures have been destroyed in the fire. A court commissioner ordered his bail to remain at $1 million US. The Miramonte jail camp made a fire line to stop the advancing Holy Fire from consuming homes in the area.

But president also drew controversy when he Tweeted earlier this week that the state's environmental laws exacerbated the fires burning across the state.

Fire officials warned residents to heed evacuation orders.

The National Weather Service says smoke from the raging fires out West has impacted cities thousands of miles away - and the atmosphere above them.

Of course, we are open to improving but if you can't improve the most important is to keep your best team and players. Speaking about any possible incomings, the Tottenham manager said in a press conference: "I think it's so hard now".

Other large fires are also continuing to drain resources and push firefighters to exhaustion.

The head of the Orange Country team fighting the Holy fire said the blaze started near Clark's cabin in Jim Canyon.

This week, the Mendocino Complex Fire became the largest wildfire in California's recorded history. Forrest Gordon Clark, 51, was arrested on suspicion of felony arson in connection to starting the blaze.

In the Redding area, the year's deadliest fire was almost half surrounded and was burning into remote and rugged forest land but grass, brush and trees there are so dry from years of drought and recent heat that the potential remained for the fire to grow, state fire officials said.

Weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 100 degrees and relative humidity below 15 percent created conditions conducive to extreme fire behavior as well as heat illnesses for the firefighters, according to the U.S. Forest Service. It was 51 percent contained on Friday.

"Firefighters continue to battle the blaze around the clock", the national forest tweet said.

Clark was placed on what's known as a "5150 hold", meaning he was placed in custody for 72 hours to evaluate his mental health, but social workers deemed him eligible to release three days later, Braun said.

People watch flames from the Holy Fire outside Glen Ivy Hot Springs in Corona, California, southeast of Los Angeles, on August 10, 2018. Dry conditions and an increase in dead trees are fueling the fires, which have left more than 800,000 acres of scorched Earth in their path and several people, including firefighters, dead.
