Jet Airways: Passengers hurt as pilots 'forget' cabin pressure

Nosebleeds on Indian flight after crew forget to pressurise cabin

Video footage shows the moment oxygen masks were released after the cabin lost pressure.

Officials in Mumbai said five passengers, who suffered nose and ear bleeding, were diagnosed with "mild conductive deafness" and later discharged from hospital.

A source at Mumbai airport claimed the aircraft made an emergency landing while the airline maintained it landed normally. All guests were deplaned safely.

The 9W 697 flight - a Boeing 737 aircraft - had 166 passengers and five crew on board.

According to a statement from Jet Airways to Business Insider, "144 of the 166 guests of the original flight traveled to Jaipur via an alternative flight of the airline, while 17 of them wished to travel at another point in time".

On the Jet Airways incident, the minister has ordered an enquiry into it.

That experience for about 30 of them on the Jet Airways flight between Mumbai and Jaipur resulted in headaches, ear pain, nosebleeds, and panic after pilots "forgot" to flick a switch that pressurized the plane's cabin, the BBC reports.

An investigation has been launched to look into how the error occurred, while the crew have been taken from their current duties.

The reason behind it was that the crew forgot to maintain the cabin pressure due to which the passengers fell sick and also several complained of a headache. Additionally, a few passengers have been taken to the hospital for check-up. The flight landed safely. He complained that the safety of passengers was being ignored.

The Centre on Thursday directed the Directorate of Civil Aviation to prepare a safety audit plan within 30 days involving assessment of safety parameters of airlines, airports, flying training schools and companies carrying out maintenance, fix and overhaul of aircraft, ANI reported.
