New bombshell in Jamal Khashoggi murder links Saudi Crown Prince

A member of the team suspected in the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi was captured on surveillance cameras wearing his clothing around Istanbul on the day he was killed, CNN reported citing a senior Turkish official.

He said on Sunday he would speak to Saudi crown prince Mohammad bin Salman "very soon" before deciding what to do.

The French presidency says France's President Emmanuel Macron and President Donald Trump shared their concerns about the circumstances that led to the death of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir insisted powerful Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was not responsible, despite multiple and conflicting accounts about Mr Khashoggi's killing on October 2.

Five Turkish employees of the Saudi consulate in Istanbul are giving statements as witnesses under an investigation into the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Turkish broadcaster NTV said on Monday.

Speaking to reporters in Berlin on Sunday, Chancellor Angela Merkel announced the arms freeze and said she will continue working with global allies to coordinate their response to Khashoggi's murder inside a Saudi consulate.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced the suspension of weapons sales to Saudi Arabia on the grounds that they can not be done under the "current circumstances", in reference to the Khashoggi case.

As Turkish President Erdogan is expected to reveal all details into the journalist's killing, Trump has stepped back from his stance that Saudi Arabia's latest explanation over the death was credible amid mounting pressure at home.

Following a telephone conversation between Saudi Arabia's King Salman and Donald Trump, the U.S. president told reporters that the king had denied all knowledge of Khashoggi's disappearance.

Saudi Arabia said on Saturday that Khashoggi was involved in "a physical confrontation, which resulted in his death".

Republican senator Rand Paul in a tweet on Saturday urged the USA to "halt all military sales, aid and cooperation immediately". On March 20, Trump gave Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman an effusive welcome at the White House, hailing a "great friendship".

Saudi Arabia denies the killing but, under pressure from Britain, France and Germany , only recently began an investigation. Khashoggi, and that they will do so in a timely fashion", he told reporters .

Britain joined forces with France and Germany yesterday with a joint statement condemning the killing of journalists as unacceptable.

Saudi authorities have said Khashoggi died in an "altercation" with Saudi officials at the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on October 2.

"Why did these 15 people come here?"

Turkish pro-government media has said the team interrogated, tortured and decapitated Khashoggi but a pro-government columnist Abdulkadir Selvi on Monday wrote in Hurriyet daily that Khashoggi was strangled to death before he was cut up into 15 pieces.

Eighteen days after Khashoggi disappeared, Saudi Arabia acknowledged early Saturday that the 59-year-old writer has died in what it called a "fistfight" inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

Saudi Arabia has presented a shifting narrative of what happened to Khashoggi.

But any direct challenge to Prince Mohammed's succession "may be destabilizing for the kingdom as a whole", said Cinzia Bianco, a London-based analyst for Gulf State Analytics. We are determined to find out all the facts.

President Donald Trump says he needs to learn more about the killing of a Saudi journalist and will be working with Congress on the US response.

There are limits to the kingdom's ability to respond, Al-Falih said.

"A lot of the reforms they've been making there to help us track down the terror financing and also to push back against the people who are perverting the religion, have been very historic over the a year ago", he said.
