Fight Between Passenger And Bus Driver Leads to Crash, 15 Die

A crane salvages the wreckage of a bus after it plunged off a bridge into the Yangtze River in China's southwestern Chongqing early

Fifteen people had been on the bus, including the driver.

A passenger is seen hitting the driver, who hits back, then loses control of the bus, which begins shaking violently, apparently upon impact with something. All 15 people onboard are presumed dead.

Thirteen bodies were found after the Sunday night crash, and two people remained missing, Chongqing Police told China Daily Friday morning.

China's state-run media released footage recovered from a CCTV camera present on the bus.

According to police, the female passenger, identified as a 48-year-old woman surnamed Liu, was angry about having missed her stop and wanted the driver, surnamed Ran, to stop immediately to let her out, however, the driver refused to do so. She walked up to the driver's seat and scolded him.

None had exploded, and it wasn't immediately clear if they were meant to cause physical harm or simply sow fear and anxiety. His ended up at the Sunrise, Fla., office of Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who was listed as the return address.

Surveillance footage showed the bus veered across the lanes, hit a vehicle, demolished a section of Yangtze River No 2 bridge's barrier and plunged into the river, where the water is about 70 metres [230 feet] deep.

The driver turned his head to face her several times in the argument.

In response, the driver takes a hand off the steering wheel and grapples with the woman for a couple of seconds. The video shows the pair swinging at each other, with the driver still attempting to steer the bus in between blows.

Rumours prompted calls to ban female drivers, as the vehicle that the bus hit was driven by a woman.

"The behaviour of both the passenger and driver has severely endangered the safety of all other passengers and has violated the law, ' police said, adding the tragedy served as an 'extremely painful lesson".
