Andreescu won 11 straight games against Williams after losing the first set and falling behind 1-0 in the second set.

The win sees the Canadian reach her maiden WTA semi-final following a hard 2018 campaign marred with injury.

"I think it's really important to me to just stay in the present moment and I think I've been doing that this whole week and I'm beyond grateful right now".

She blasted the 20-year-old Kuzmova off the court in the first set, with a number of winners and unreturnable serves.

Germany's Goerges needed to save match-points in her 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (6) win over Canadian Bouchard, coming back from a set down and then a match point down at 5-6 in the final set to reel off three successive points and win the encounter in the Auckland Open.

Goerges was in near flawless form as she raced through the first set in under 30 minutes with a power game that forced Kuzmova well behind the baseline.

"My goal was only to qualify and maybe get a couple of rounds in but now I've beaten a couple of top players", Andreescu said.

Overcoming a back injury and a cold, Canadian teenager Bianca Andreescu upset top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki 6-4, 6-4 late last night and advanced to the quarterfinals of the ASB Classic.

World No. 143 Andreescu saved 10 of the 12 break points she faced in a resolute display, managing to break through herself twice in each set on the Wozniacki serve to secure a 6-4, 6-4 victory.

The second set ended up going to a tiebreak.

Andreescu has one more match to play in Auckland.

"I tried to do that in the second as well, but I was too passive for my ways. I just broke her five times in a row,"' Andreescu said. I had an fantastic week, I beat a lot of top players.

"Everybody deserves their spot in the final, so she has played some terrific tennis", Goerges said.

"I'm not focusing on my opponent, that's what I always say".
