Major iPhone FaceTime Bug Lets You Eavesdrop on Any iPhone User

Apple FaceTime glitch lets you silently snoop on others

It is activated when calling someone via FaceTime. Without the recipient answering the phone, audio from the other user's phone is then streamed to the caller.

While making a FaceTime call, it's possible to add another person to the call by swiping up on the iPhone, and if you add your own number while the phone is still ringing, the recipient's mic will turn on and you'll be able to hear audio from their end before the call has been accepted. This will cause the microphone of the person you are calling to turn on and allow the caller to listen to what is happening in the room.

The bug emerged on Data Privacy Day when Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook called for "action and reform for vital privacy protections".

The site also found that video calls to Mac were affected by the same bug, and that in certain circumstances an attacker could also get access to a target iPhone's camera feed before it had picked up.

BleepingComputer has tested and confirmed that this bug works in iOS 12.1.2 and we were able to hear and see the person.

Trump postpones Speaker Pelosi's foreign trip over gov't shutdown
So here we are, 27 days into this shutdown, with 800,000 people losing wages and many, many more missing services they rely on. Ivanka Trump, who had been rumoured to be a contender for the position herself, will not be a candidate, Ditto said.

A recently discovered bug with Apple's FaceTime feature is raising privacy concerns.

Apple only added the ability to host more than two people in the same FaceTime call in a software update last October. You can disable FaceTime on your iPhone by heading to Settings and toggle the FaceTime icon to gray.

Now that FaceTime is disabled, callers will be unable to utilize this bug to listen and watch you without your permission through FaceTime.

Apple told BuzzFeed News that is "aware of this issue and we have identified a fix that will be released in a software update later this week". In the meantime, you'll probably want to disable FaceTime and maybe sleep with your iPhone outside the bedroom for a bit.
