Some Facebook employees considered quitting over Apple mess

Apple punishes Google for data collection app

While Google has its own operating system, Android, a large number of the company's nearly 100,000 employees use iPhones for their work, and the firm releases much of its software on both Android and Apple's iOS. Google and Facebook workers, beta testers, and research participants lost access to internal iOS versions of pre-launch test apps. The block followed an earlier event in which Google was found violating Apple's app distribution policy.

On Tuesday, the technology news site TechCrunch published a report detailing Facebook's research app and its public use, which violated the rules of Apple's program.

Apple has restored Google's access to its iOS apps, according to Bloomberg's Mark Bergen.

Thus far, Apple has not indicated whether it will be ramping up its policing of companies' use of enterprise certificates as a result of Facebook and Google's actions.

Apple revoked the same kind of certificate from Facebook Wednesday for the same reasons.

In 2016, the Onavo team had created a research app that vacuumed up all of a user's phone and web activity; Facebook paid people ages 13 to 35 to install it. The app tracks the user's phone and extracts information. It accused the social network to sidestep Apple restrictions on data collection. As for Apple's decision to pull the company's Enterprise Certificate, Canahuati chalks it up to a misunderstanding, saying "our relationship with Apple is really important". Many Google employees use Android devices, so Apple's move was likely tougher on Facebook. However, Facebook was abusing the system to distribute the iOS apps to consumers, Apple said.

Is the US Seriously Taking the Taliban at Its Word?
During his address, Ghani noted that US and other foreign forces remain in the country because they are still needed. Ghani sought to assure Afghans that no deals would be made without Kabul's awareness and full participation.

Google just issued a statement to The Verge regarding the rumor that Apple disabled Google's enterprise developer certificate.

Restoration of the certificate means Facebook can once distribute internal apps to its employees that help them test software features before users see them.

Business Insider obtained a leaked memo from Facebook executive Pedro Canahuati, which offers more detail on Apple's power over the social media giant. Facebook said in its statement: "Key facts about this market research program are being ignored". More than its process of collecting data, however, the app's distribution method has raised a red flag, prompting the ban.

Apple has been dealing with its own privacy problems.

She added that fewer than 5 percent of users in the research program were teenagers and that all had obtained signed parental consent forms. Facebook's latest update also brings support for the new iPad Pro variants that come in 11-inch and 12.9-inch options.
