USB stick found in New Zealand seal poop somehow still works

NZ scientists hunting for owner of USB after it was found frozen in seal poo

The seal feces was being analyzed to assess the health and diet of the seals, and researchers say finding the memory stick was not a good sign.

Volunteers scouring through some critical seal poo evidence for a NIWA research have come across a surprising find.

'It is very worrying that these fantastic Antarctic animals have plastic like this inside them, ' said Ms Warren.

The sample was submitted by a vet who had been monitoring a sickly-looking leopard seal on Oreti Beach, Invercargill, on New Zealand's South Island.

NIWA has tut-tutted about the fact plastics found their way into both the environment and a seal, but also offered to return the USB to its owner if they help out by collecting more post-digestive residue from seals to assist further research.

Officials in New Zealand are now on the hunt for the owners of the USB stick to reunite them with their holiday footage of kayaking with sealions. Hupman had stuck it in the freezer, where it stayed for over a year until just three weeks ago, when researchers defrosted it and discovered something large and hard inside.

On the memory stick - discovered intact and with the cap still on - were images of wildlife taken at Porpoise Bay, nearly 60 miles from where the scat was collected, but no identifiable human faces. "The leopard seal researchers would like some more leopard seal scat please", Niwa said in a release.

Super Bowl overnight TV ratings fall to 10-year low
The Patriots and Rams managed a combined tally of 16 points, marking the lowest scoring Super Bowl on record. After the game, some took to the streets to celebrate, while others left the bar to head home.

"W$3 e basically have to sift it".

Inside the poop, they found a USB drive which still worked.

Warren left the stick to dry for weeks, curious to see if any data could be recovered.

NIWA said the only clue in the photos as to who might have taken them was the nose of a blue kayak. "It can tell them what these Antarctic predators eat, a little bit about their health and how long they may have been in New Zealand waters".

"They said: 'You won't believe what we've found, '" she recalled.

According to the team, the USB stick was found fully intact with the cap still on.
