Fundraiser for teen who egged Senator Anning surpasses $20k

Controversial Australian lawmaker'egged after comments on New Zealand mass shootingMore

Rabat- Appearing to have been outraged by inflammatory comments in the aftermath of the Christchurch mosque shootings, a 17-year-old boy cracked a raw egg on the head of an Australian senator during a news conference in Melbourne on Saturday.

Footage of the incident shows a young man watching Mr Anning from the sidelines before he starts filming with his mobile phone, and then smashes the egg on the back of the senator's head.

The young man was later led away by officers and a Victoria Police spokesman later said they had arrested a 17-year-old boy from Hampton.

Senator Anning responded: "Well he's obviously a little on the insane side, but yeah".

According to media reports, the teen was released by police without any charges being filed.

"Whilst this kind of violent vigilantism can never be justified, what it highlights is the growing fear within our community, both in Australia and New Zealand of the increasing Muslim presence", Anning said in the statement.

Senator Anning, who in a statement on Friday following the mosque terror attacks that killed 50 people blamed Muslims, has been condemned across the world for his racist remarks.

Australian PM Scott Morrison has announced the Coalition and Labour would pass a motion in the next parliament meeting in April to censure Anning.

Israel and Jordan are believed to be holding discussions to resolve the issue. There were no injuries reported from the firebombing.

The remarks were also denounced by UK Home Secretary Sajid Javid, who accused the senator of stoking extremism.

Anning was strongly criticised by Australian politicians on Friday after making controversial comments about the New Zealand attacks on Twitter.

"While Muslims may be the victims today, usually they are the perpetrators", Anning said.

On social media, Egyptians shared Senator Anning's statement, calling for action to be taken against him.

"No, but we do see the link between certain senators and violence", wrote one man on Twitter.

Anning has received widespread condemnation following comments he made that saying cause of New Zealand's worst peace time shooting was letting "Muslim fanatics" migrate to the country. Most recently, Bob Katter, leader of Katter's Australian Party, dropped Anning from his party after Anning called for a European immigration program in his first speech in Parliament.

Furthermore, a petition to have Senator Anning removed from the Australian Parliament has received more than 250,000 signatures.
