Where do our MPs stand on the SNC-Lavalin fiasco?

Justin Trudeau regrets 'erosion of trust' over political scandal

Budget minister Jane Philpott followed suit, as did longtime Trudeau friend and top aide Gerry Butts. Wilson-Raybould told the House of Commons justice committee last week that officials imposed "consistent and sustained pressure" on her from September to December a year ago to ensure SNC-Lavalin pay a large fine rather than go to trial.

But he said he should have been aware of an "erosion of trust" between the minister and his office. The high-profile loss of so many skilled jobs might have turned the province towards the Conservatives, or so some are speculating, which might be why Trudeau's team allegedly and unethically interfered in this case.

"What Justin Trudeau stands accused of is overstepping that line for political purposes".

The prime minister said, "Our government will be stronger for having wrestled with these issues".

"Today a senior member of his inner circle has come to the same conclusion", said Scheer, adding that if all Liberal cabinet ministers do not do likewise, Canadians will conclude the "ethical rot that infects this government has consumed the Liberal Party entirely".

Nor did he explain the discrepancy between what he said he told Wilson-Raybould about prosecutorial independence, and what she said.

It has close connections to the government. A federal court judge has ruled the director of public prosecutions' decision to bring SNC-Lavalin to trial on charges of fraud and corruption, rather than to negotiate a "remediation agreement" as the company preferred, was a proper exercise of her prosecutorial discretion.

Trudeau, who did not apologize and maintained that there was no inappropriate pressure applied to Wilson-Raybould, said he directed his staff members to engage Wilson-Raybould on the SNC-Lavalin matter and conceded he should have reached out personally. We have heard much of the many entreaties to the AG to lean on the DPP, by the prime minister, his principal secretary, his chief of staff, the clerk of the Privy Council, the finance minister, and his chief of staff, among others.

Pep Guardiola: FFP allegations won't taint my Manchester City legacy
The publication recently claimed that City made a payment to Jadon Sancho's agent when the player was only 14 and before he left Watford in 2015.

Goldsmith- Jones, who has already been confirmed as the Liberal candidate for the riding in the coming election, said she remains "100 per cent behind" moving forward with the government's agenda and hopes Wilson-Raybould and Philpott remain on the Liberal benches.

"No, no, no", she recalls Trudeau saying. "I acknowledge we need to make adjustments".

Patty Hajdu, the minister of employment, workforce development and labour, was later asked about Trudeau's response to the scandal and reaffirmed her support for the prime minister. Wilson-Raybould has said the pressure was "inappropriate" but not illegal. And so is Wilson-Raybould.

A forthcoming proposal to update the integrity regime - which Public Services Minister Carla Qualtrough has said will be finalized in about a month - might have major consequences for SNC-Lavalin.

Since their majority victory October 2015, the Trudeau Liberals have sparked outrage among pro-life and pro-family advocates for their abortion extremism and promotion of homosexuality.

Trudeau decreed as Liberal leader no pro-life advocate could run as a candidate in his party.

"She said she couldn't do it for the reason that she spent her life opposed to the Indian Act, and couldn't be in charge of programs administered under its authority", he said, adding that in 13 shuffles over many years, he had never seen anyone turn down a ministerial position.

Last month, the Canadian Press reported that Fergus, who is the chair of Parliament's black caucus, said the government's bureaucracy has been slow to act on the promises Trudeau made around equal opportunity and treatment for black Canadians at a Black History Month speech previous year. Look at what happened to the last person who said no to the PM on this file.
